Job Description:
SEASONAL FARM LABOURER

Cavendish Farms is a leading producer of frozen food products for retail and foodservice markets throughout Canada, the United States and around the world. We have two state-of-the-art potato processing plants in PEI. Two others in Jamestown, ND and Lethbridge, Alberta as well as an appetizer plant in Wheatley, ON. Our Head office is in Dieppe, NB.


Reporting to the Farm Manager, Seasonal Farm Labourers will be reliable, self-starters who are always looking for opportunities to improve. These individuals must have the ability to adapt to a fast paced, dynamic work environment. There are multiple positions available for the 2020 season and the anticipated start date is September 15th, 2020.


Hours: Seasonal, Full-time - 40-60 per week


Qualifications:

Continuously looking for opportunities for improvement;
Ability to quickly adapt to a fast paced, dynamic work environment;
Must hold a valid class 5 driver’s license;
Willingness to work outdoors;
Availability to work extended hours including weekend;
Experience around equipment would be an asset.
Ability to lift 50 lbs;
Experience around equipment would be an asset;

Key Responsibilities:

Potato harvest, bagging, lifting, loading/unloading, potato grading, counting, weighting, load/unload, carry and move bags and trays. Activities performed in the field and warehouse.
Seed handling (selection and cutting), field planting and fertilization of research plots
Performing field work including planting and maintaining plots; lifting up to 50 lbs.
Responsible for maintenance of plants in the greenhouse, including transplanting plantlets, watering and harvesting pots;
Weed control in the field plots
Harvest of experimental plots, bagging, lifting, loading/unloading bags and trays up to 50 lbs.
Potato grading, counting, weighting in the field and warehouse.
