Job Description:
Gerrit Visser & Sons is a potato packing operation located in Orwell Cove on beautiful Prince Edward Island. We wash, grade and pack potatoes for the fresh table market. We have a longstanding reputation with retailers, distributers, co-packers and customers of providing exceptional quality, and having the capacity and flexibility to deliver what they need, when they need it. Our quality potatoes, or spuds as we often call them, are grown by our own farm, GW&R Visser Farms, and other trusted partner growers, who consistently harvest beautiful potatoes from PEI’s rich red soil.
Manage the receiving (from storage bins, boxes, other growers, etc), sizing and washing of potatoes for the packaging line. Perform all tasks necessary to ensure that raw product is provided to the feed end of the line and that all sizing, washing and polishing equipment is operating efficiently to carry that product to the rest of the line. This is an essential role for our Pack Shed as the throughput in this area of our plant directly correlates to how much we can produce.
Major Tasks/Responsibilities:
1. Provide adequate throughput to production line as consistently as possible during production hours to maximize throughput
2. Monitor equipment to ensure smooth operation, efficiency and safety. Be attentive to equipment cleaning, maintenance, etc to ensure optimal performance and minimal down-time
3. Understand how to optimize your efforts and manage your time so that this area of the plant operates as efficiently as possible
4. Work as part of a team and execute your role with a sense of pride and ownership (care for equipment, attention to detail, etc)
5. Operate trucks, forklifts, other equipment in a safe, efficient manner at all times
6. Maintain clear, accurate, up-to-date records of all run information
7. Maintain order and tidiness in areas of operation (boxes, trucks, forklifts, tools, etc
8. Manage box inventory accurately, neatly, promptly, etc
Work Hours:
Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Saturday 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (as required)
Other hours as required, especially during peak seasons)
Average hours / week: 50

$14.00 - $18.00/hr
