The Agriculture Employment Officer is part of the Work Experience PEI Program funded through Skills PEI. Applicants must be EI eligible and require a valuable work experience. To be eligible, you must: have a current EI claim or have a previous EI claim whose benefit period ended in the preceding 36 months and you are currently unemployed. Hours worked under a Work Experience PEI Program are not EI eligible.

Completion of secondary school and several years of experience in Human Resources would be a asset. Knowledge of the agricultural industry would be an asset. Computer skills and the ability to work with a variety of people with little supervision are essential. Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required. Must be a self starter who thrives on meeting targets and deadlines.

Job Description:
The Agricultural Employment Officers will assist clients in finding jobs in agriculture while providing agricultural employers with much needed workers. They will also assist with training initiatives. This employment opportunity will be
funded under the Work Experience Program, Skills PEI. Eligible employee must have been on unemployment benefits within the last 5 years.

Main Duties
Specifically the Agriculture Employment Officers will perform the following duties:

Advertise the service to employee and employer clients through social media (Facebook/Twitter), farm visits, cold calls, attending fairs and exhibitions, visiting local career centres, and attending career fairs.

Act as administrator and update/maintain the Agriculture Employment Opportunities job bank on the PEI Agriculture Sector Council website.

Maintain and update a database of Agriculture employers and employees.

Increase the database of Agriculture employers and employees through promotion.

Develop a working relationship with agricultural employers to gain knowledge of the industry while working to address their staffing needs.

Must maintain detailed tracking sheets of all activities completed.

Assist employers in the development of job advertisements and job descriptions and keep an updated list of agricultural job listings on a database to be advertised as needed.

Receive requests for workers from employers and refer any suitable workers to employers.

Recruit workers through other organizations such as the P.E.I. Newcomers Association, Career Development Services and East Prince Youth Prince Development Centre.

Be available to meet face to face with employee clients in office setting

Work with employee clients to determine their agricultural career choices and skills while assisting in development of job search skills and providing information on specific agricultural jobs available.

Provide employee clients with information on any upcoming training which may be of interest to them.

Refer employee clients to external service provider for further employment counselling if required.


Conduct follow-up interviews with employees and employers to determine satisfaction with service received to be used to compile a report which will outline plans for the future of the service.

Wages:
Salary based on 37.5 hrs/wk and paid through EI benefits as positions are funded through the Skills PEI Work Experience Program. These hours are not EI eligible hours.
