Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have a University Degree, preferably majoring in science, agriculture
or education, combined with considerable experience (minimum 3 years) in program development
and/or delivery. Applicants must have extensive knowledge of current farm practices and technology.
Applicants must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications and presentation skills.
Experience interpreting and applying legislation will be considered an asset.

Preference will be given to candidates that have obtained or who are working towards a Canadian
Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation.

Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered and must be articulated in the application process.

A satisfactory criminal records check is required for this position.

Preference will be given to all internal candidates.
Job Description:
Reporting to the Manager, Occupational Health and Safety, the Farm Safety Specialist is responsible
for development, promotion and implementation of occupational health and safety programs and
strategies in Island farm workplaces covered by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Smoke
Free Places Act and the Farm Safety code of Practice.

Duties include:
- supporting labour and management to work cooperatively to attain the highest standard of
health and safety in the workplace;
- promoting the development and use of the Farm Safety Code of Practice as a best practice for
farm supervisors, their workers, farming organizations, and associations through presentations,
workshops, and education sessions where needed;
- conducting workplace inspections as defined under the applicable Acts noted above;
- investigating injuries and fatal accidents;
- investigating allegations of violations of the Acts noted above;
- ensuring compliance by issuing Work Orders (including immediate Stop Work Orders);
- initiating prosecution actions and developing the evidence file for such actions;
- working with Crown Prosecution and Provincial Coroner to initiate court proceedings based on
investigation findings;
- maintaining current knowledge of policies, procedures, the Act, codes and standards.
Wages:
Level 17: $28.93 - $36.16 per hour
